Job Title:	Forensic Analyst (L1) - Abingdon
Summary of Job:	To undertake DNA analysis of submitted biological materials.
Reporting Relationship:	Reports to Forensic Team Leader/no direct reports
Essential Functions:	Training will be given in PCR/STR analysis on Forensic EZ1 samples following Standard Operating Procedures under close supervision of the Team Leader, ensuring that quality, accuracy and safety standards are maintained. Examination of forensic exhibits for the presence of DNA bearing material, make notes and record continuity details prior to DNA profiling. Receipt and logging on of incoming samples. Basic knowledge of expert witness training, preparation of statements and giving evidence in court regarding samples that have been analysed. Responding to routine enquiries to a high standard.
Job Requirements:	Education: Minimum ‘A’ level, preferably BSc or HND in a Molecular Biology or Applied Biology subject Experience: Some laboratory experience an advantage. Technical Skills: Ability to work to GLP Familiarity with EZ1 DNA Extraction Method Familiarity with electrophoresis equipment (e.g. 3100) Good knowledge of Molecular Biology Methods DNA/PCR essential. Understanding of Quality systems e.g. Iso. Understanding of and ability to use computerised sample tracking system Experience with Microsoft Excel / Word to carry out data input/manipulation. Non-Technical Skills: Attention to detail and concern for impact Customer awareness Accurate record keeping Ability to work in a fast paced environment Good interpersonal and communication skills Maturity and professional demeanour Ability to work in a team Good verbal and written skills
Physical Demands:	VDU Operation Routine laboratory procedures requiring manual dexterity
Working Conditions:	Clean, modern air conditioned labs; computer workstation in a shared office. Will be required to take part in out of hours and week end working rotas Occasional requirement to be on call for emergencies
